Casual and social games publisher PopCap Games has teamed-up with TAITO to launch PopTower on GREE, Japan’s largest social network with 25 million users. The game is actually a custom-built version of PopCap’s flagship global game brand Bejeweled, featuring all-new game modes and social elements that allow Japanese users to interact with friends.

PopCap has already sold more than 1 million digital copies of its single player mobile games in Japan, but PopTower marks the company’s arrival into the mobile social gaming space. After Bejeweled, PopCap will also launch two other titles, Chuzzle and Zuma, in the near future.

TAITO was one of the first major game companies to enter the burgeoning mobile social game market, releasing more than a half dozen successful titles to date. As for PopCap, it is regarded as a leader in the casual games segment and one of the gaming companies that has successfully adapted itself to an ever-increasing variety of new gaming platforms and technologies.
