It’s a huge day for Verizon with the release of four major handsets and we just had the nice delivery man drop off the HTC Trophy and thought we’d show it off to you before we do an official review. How does the first Windows Phone 7 handset for Verizon stack up against the competition?
I actually really, really like the way the HTC Trophy feels in the hand, as it’s light and sleek but it doesn’t feel cheap. It’s essentially a slimmed down version of the Surround and it ditches the relatively useless slide-out speaker that was on the AT&T handset.
The face is mainly a 3.8-inch WVGA display along with the standard Windows Phone 7 buttons: back, Windows and Search. On the side is a hard camera button which can launch your camera app even when you’re in the lock screen and the other spine has a flush volume rocker and the microUSB port.
The HTC Trophy sports a 5-megapixel camera with a flash and you’ll notice there’s some red accents near the camera. Once you pop open the battery door, you’re hit with an explosion of red, as the battery and the innards are all a bright red.
The HTC Trophy comes with the Windows Phone 7 NoDo software to run on the CDMA network, as well as use copy and paste. It doesn’t have the new features that Windows Phone 7.1 Mango will have but it’s still a unique take on the mobile computing experience.
Overall, I really like the look and feel of this device and the cherry on top is that it has world roaming capabilities. The smartphone market is very crowded though, so you’ll have to wait for our full review (coming very shortly) to see where this handset stands.
