Video discovery company VideoSurf, which is like Shazam for video, is teaming-up with Verizon Wireless. Under the deal, the Big Red carrier will offer the application for free to its customers via V CAST Apps. Additionally, Verizon will preload it on its LTE smartphones such as the HTC ThunderBolt, LG Revolution and Samsung DROID CHARGE.
VideoSurf allows users to point their phones at a TV or computer screen to capture a few seconds of what they are watching to quickly identify the episode and celebrities. Moreover, it will also get you back additional information about what was identified and suggest other videos to watch. The application/service relies on a proprietary visual recognition technology to “see” inside videos, providing “superior results and an enhanced user experience.”
Finally it’s worth pointing out that you don’t have to be a Verizon Wireless customer to download VideoSurf – the application is also available from the Android Market.
In related news, Verizon’s VC arm Verizon Ventures made a strategic investment in VideoSurf earlier this year.
