If you’re a Costco member and you happen to be in the market for an Android Honeycomb tablet, then you may want to direct your attention to the new pricing for the Motorola Xoom. Costco has brought the price of the first Honeycomb tablet down to only $499, and it includes a free gel case along with the purchase.
People who recently purchased the Motorola Xoom from Costco have claimed that they have received money back due to the price change, so if you did recently grab the tablet you should check back at the store to see if you can reclaim some of those greenbacks. The new pricing for the Xoom should appeal to those who have been looking at the tablet for some time now but have ultimately waited due to its high price.
While the $499 price point for the Xoom is definitely much easier on the eyes, we wish the timing could have been better. Samsung is ready to assault the market with its Galaxy Tab 10.1, which may come with less storage and ports, but is significantly thinner than the Xoom, as well as lighter. It’s a bit of a toss-up between the two, but we’d choose the Galaxy Tab 10.1 over the Xoom any day and deal without the extra ports. Still, this new pricing for Motorola’s offering can only be a good thing for the company. We just wish it was offered for $499 everywhere.
The Motorola Xoom is still up to snuff in the specifications department, offering up a 10.1 inch display, with NVIDIA’s Tegra 2 dual-core processor running the show. It may be on the chunkier side for a tablet in the days where thin is in, but you’re definitely not sacrificing horse power with the device.
If you’re still aching to find your dad a nice gift for Father’s Day on the 18th, and you’re a Costco member with a few bills to burn, then the Xoom may be just the doctor ordered.
