Official Twitter app for Android updated with multiple account support and more

While I prefer another Twitter client, the official application is still a great way to get your tweet on. The app was recently updated and brings a couple of commonly requested features along for the right.

First up, the official Twitter application will allow you to use multiple accounts without having to log out of one account. This has been an option on many other clients for some time now so we’re glad to see that the official app is up to speed on that front. This makes it much easier for those who have a work and a personal account and you can now easily switch between the two with ease.

The other notable feature is that the Twitter application now supports push notifications. You can choose what you’d like to be notified with, be it mentions, direct messages, or tweets. This feature has also been around on other clients for a long time, and it’s almost surprising that we’re just seeing it now with official app. Push notifications should help you stay connected without having to stare at the app itself constantly.

Other new tweaks included a cosmetic update to the home screen widgets, as well as other improvements and bug fixes. It may not be the largest update for the official app but we’re certainly not complaining about multiple account support and push notifications. While some will say that the official app is still miles behind other offerings, there’s something about having those Twitter users synced to your account that I like, even though I tend to never utilize the feature.

Are these the features that will make you go to the official app, or are you happy with your current offering, Tweeter? I’ll personally continue to use Plume but who knows what could happen when that nifty little TweetDeck purchase begins to shine through the official app.
