Halfbrick, who is well known for games such as Fruit Ninja, Monster Dash, and Age of Zombies, will soon be releasing their newest creation, Jetpack Joyride (previously known as Machine Gun Jetpack). The game has you once again controlling Barry Steakfries in a similar fashion as you did in Monster Dash, but this time, Barry will be fighting his way through a number of enemies with his trusty jetpack.

The game’s new title was announced today via a YouTube video, which is embedded below. The purpose of the change of name is due to the fact Barry Steakfries will be using an assortment of jetpacks, such as the Rainbow Jetpack, Laser Jetpack, and my personal favorite, the Sharkhead Jetpack. The game will be a one-touch action side-scrolling title which requires players to simply touch the screen to navigate Barry through a number of levels.

Halfbrick also took this opportunity to announce the game’s official release date, which is September 1st, as well as the game’s ridiculously low price of $.99. The game has received some special optimizations for the iPhone 4’s Retina Display and the iPad 2. Both versions will still have a high quality 16-bit feel to them, but the graphics will be much smoother on those devices.
