It looks like Windows Phone Mango may not be too far away from being released, as Microsoft is now accepting Mango apps into the Windows Marketplace for mobile.

On its blog, Microsoft explained what this means for developers and consumers.

This means that new and existing titles optimized for Mango features like fast app switching, background audio, multiple and double sided Live Tiles, better Search integration and more will begin publishing in a matter of days. Now that’s not to say that Mango will arrive on existing devices in the coming days (sorry, not quite yet). It does, however, mean that people running early builds of Mango will see these new apps and games.

I’m really looking forward to these apps as it will finally give Microsoft’s pretty platform software which is comparable to iOS and Android. For example, bar code reading apps or things like Instagram weren’t possible earlier because app makers couldn’t get hooks into the phone’s cameras. Now, let’s just hope that Mango rolls out soon and that we get some killer hardware to go with it.
