Well, we heard that the iPhone 5 will be landing on Sprint this October but a new rumor suggests that it will also be landing on T-Mobile this Fall too. That’s right, we may be looking at a holiday season where the iPhone is available on all four major U.S. carriers.
MacTrast has this report from unnamed sources, so I guess we should be a bit skeptical but this isn’t the first time we’ve heard of this, as BGR had reports of Apple testing an iPhone on T-Mobile’s networks. Other than the device coming to T-Mobile this October, there aren’t many more details.
The next iPhone should have a dual-mode CDMA/GSM chip, so running on T-Mobile, AT&T, Sprint and Verizon shouldn’t be a problem. What may be a problem is getting “4G” on this device because each carrier is using a different standard for its 4G. Verizon is using LTE, AT&T is using HSPA+ and LTE, Sprint is using WiMax and T-Mobile is using HSPA+.
There have been reports that Apple is looking to sell at least 30 million of its next iPhones by the end of the year and if it gets on AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint and Verizon by the end of the year, it may very well get there.
