Mobile ad marketplace Tapjoy launched Tapjoy Videos, which it describes as an “innovative mobile video advertising platform designed to provide advertisers with the reach, impact and brand building power of TV combined with the targeting and user engagement offered by Tapjoy’s extensive pay-for-performance ad marketplace.”
Kinda too pitchy if you ask me. However they may be onto something. Instead of annoying users with “regular” video ads, apps using Tapjoy’s SDK will allow users to actually select a video ad they want to watch. Then once users watch the whole video, they’ll be rewarded for taking the time to do so — we’re talking about accessing a part of the application or getting some virtual money. Sounds like a win-win to me, even though I hate video ads.
On the other hand, advertisers will pay only for video ads users actually watched to the end. So if a user closes an app after two seconds, advertiser won’t be charged at all. What’s more, they (advertisers and their agencies) will be incentivized to make better videos, which users actually want to watch. Neat huh?
