Aside from Apple announcing the iPhone 4S yesterday, another big piece of news was the availability of iOS 5 on October 12th which means a slew of apps will soon be receiving updates in order to support Apple’s latest and greatest iOS version. Firemint is one company that always seems to be willing and able when it comes to updating its games in time for the latest iOS update and it looks like the iOS 5 update for Real Racing 2 is going to be a doozie.
The iOS 5 update for Firemint’s Real Racing 2 will take full advantage of iOS 5’s Airplay feature by allowing players to play on their HDTVs wirelessly in full 720p, given that you also own an AppleTV device. The new mode, called “Party Play,” will allow for up to four players to play on their iOS devices while sharing their game on their HDTV for anyone else to watch. The iPad 2 or iPhone 4S will need to act as the host of the game, while the other iOS devies, including the iPod Touch, can join the game. When Party Play is activated, your HDTV will show a split screen of any action on the iOS device. Players can even opt to use their iOS device to show in-game information while using the HDTV to actually play the game.
Aside from the iOS 5 update for Real Racing 2, Firemint will also offer support for the iPhone 4S’ A5 dual-core processor by enhancing the graphics and performance of iPhone version of Real Racing 2 with car interiors that feature real-time dynamic shadows, vehicles that have a 4x increase in polygon count, and enhancements to the game’s tracks to offer a more realistic look to them. Although, if you already own an iPad 2, then you’ve been enjoying all of these enhancements for quite some time now.
