We’re down in sunny San Diego a little early to cover the CTIA tradeshow this week and we just so happened to stumble upon a Microsoft store and decided you should get a look.
In general, the Microsoft store does seem a lot like an Apple store with its wide-open spaces, lots of demonstration areas and a clean, modern look. Don’t start crying “copy cat” yet though, as I really felt like the Microsoft store lacked the pretentious nature that sometimes follows Apple’s stores and it was actually more fun due to things like the Xbox.
Beyond having multiple Xbox gaming demonstration centers and live games, the Kinect is really being shown off. In the back room, there was a giant television screen with a Kinect and one local teen was having a blast using his hands to play Fruit Ninja.
Of course, there are also multiple PCs, software, accessories and even things like a Kindle on display. What I found funny is that there’s a large section dedicated to Windows Phone and all the devices that run the platform but no one seemed interested when I was there. Heck, even the tablet area filled with Windows 7 slates was more popular.
