Navigation services provider Garmin launched its first fitness application for iOS and Android users. Called Garmin Fit, the app lets users track metrics such as speed, pace, distance, time, calories and with the help of additionally accessories see their heart rate and cadence. Moreover, it also maps and automatically uploads workouts to Garmin Connect, a web-based service from where users can set goals, share workouts with friends and family, and participate in an online fitness community of more than 70 million activities around the world.

Alongside mobile application, Garmin also introduced the ANT+ adapter for iPhone allowing users to use their Garmin ANT+ accessories with their iPhone…

Now we love to see more competition in every segment of the market and even though we like Garmin for their navigation products, I’m not sure whether they’ll be able to compete with existing players like RunKeeper, Nike+, Endomodo and others. That said, I’m not sure why they haven’t simply acquired an existing company. That would instantly give them a head start… Any thoughts?
