Just because it’s a mid-range device, that doesn’t mean the Huawei IDEOS X5/U8800 isn’t eligible to get the Gingerbread update. Quite the contrary, it can handle Android 2.3 just as well as it did Froyo… or at least that’s what we think. And that seems to be what the Chinese company is thinking as well, since it announced one of its most popular smartphones will get the Gingerbread treatment by the end of this month. Here’s what they said:
We can confirm that the IDEOS X5 upgrade to Android 2.3 will be available by the end of November.
Unfortunately, we can’t say that the fact it can now run the latest available version of Google’s mobile OS makes the IDEOS X5 (U8800) a great purchase, but it’s good to see that Huawei hasn’t forgot about existing users and will get them some platform enhancements…
