While Logitech is dumping its Google TV product, LG is exploring ways to make money out of it. The Korean company is apparently looking forward to launch a Google TV device at the upcoming CES in Las Vegas. We don’t have all the details — the information comes from Bloomberg which quotes “two people with knowledge of the project” — but we’re pretty confident LG will launch a Google TV-enabled TV set (something Sony already did), rather than a set-top box a la Logitech Revue.
If there’s some merit in this rumor — and we think there is — Google will get a big boost for its Google TV initiative, considering that LG is the world’s second largest television manufacturer. Of course, the search giant on its end will have to further update the product and make it appealing to wider user base (i.e. not just the geeks).
Personally, I was looking to get myself the Logitech Revue and now that the company’s CEO said they’ll kill it, I’m not sure whether I should get one or wait for the second generation devices. What do you say?
