When iLounge begins one of their articles with “our most reliable source has spoken”, we tend to listen. Said source spills the beans on three products: the iPad 3, the iPhone 5, and the next MacBook Pro. Starting with the iPad 3, it’s going to be 0.7 mm thicker than the iPad 2 because it’s going to need two light bars to drive a higher resolution screen. This confirms a report we heard in early November from DigiTimes which said that Apple is considering going with either a dual LED light bar or a pair of single LED light bars on either side of the display. Both solutions require additional power and put off more heat, something that manufacturers supposedly addressed well enough that Apple is going to use either of the two techniques in the next iPad. Now if Apple can deliver on their deadlines, they can show off the iPad 3 in January and then ship it in March, but if it can’t be demoed in January they’re still aiming for a March release date.
Now the iPhone 5. It’s supposedly going to pack a 4 inch display, be 8 mm longer than the current iPhone 4/4S, and the back of the device will be made out of metal. The design isn’t tear dropped as we’ve been hearing all along, which makes sense when you think about it since how comfortable would it be to hold a teardropped device in a landscape orientation? Said iPhone is on track to come out during the summer, and it may very well have LTE.
And lastly the MacBook Pro, which we don’t normally cover on IntoMobile. It’s simply said to be thinner, which is a huge “duh”. We’ll be keeping track of the rumor mill until Apple’s next event, that’s a given, so stay glued to our homepage for the latest in Apple news!
