Bell has announced that December 8 will be the launch day for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus in Canada, with a pricetag sitting at $159.95 on a three-year contract, or $649.95 with no strings attached. When Bell initially made their announcement, there was some fishy language revolving around exclusivity, but from what I’ve gathered, it only extends over the holiday season; Rogers has confirmed that they’ll have the HSPA+ model available in January.
The Samsung Galaxy Nexus promises to be a beast of a phone, boasting a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor, 1 GB of RAM, 21 Mbps HSPA+ connectivity, a 4.6-inch 1280 x 720 touchscreen, and a 5 megapixel camera. The hardware is nice and all, but the real fun stuff is on the software side. Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich will introduce some cool new tricks, like face recognition for phone unlocking, and Beam for quick file sharing between two NFC-enabled handsets.
If you’re interested in getting your hands on one on launch day, Bell has an interesting way to line up for the Galaxy Nexus on Twitter. You’ll have to send a tweet to Bell on December 1 between 10 AM and 11 AM, and retweet them every hour until 10 PM to keep your spot. The first 100 will get guaranteed shipment on December 8. Neat idea, and only half as degrading as camping out in front of the store. More info on the Twitter line-up here, or you can go ahead and pre-order here if you don’t care when you get it.
