Rumor: Verizon Galaxy Nexus to launch December 11

December 1, 2011 by Kelly Hodgkins - 2 Comments

In the cellular world, the greatest mystery right now is the launch date of the Verizon Galaxy Nexus. Samsung introduced the handset in October and launched it in the UK last month. It’s expected to launch  stateside in December, but the exact sale date is still unknown.

An earlier rumor claimed the Galaxy Nexus would arrive on December 8th, but Engadget got its hands on a Best Buy inventory list that suggests the highly anticipated handset will now land on December 11th. The screen grab looks legitimate, but the dates listed are always subject to change. Verizon could surprise us and launch the handset next week, or it could push off the launch until after the holiday shopping season.

Whiile the blogs have been talking up the Galaxy Nexus, Verizon has remained silent. There’s no launch date, no pre-order date, almost nothing for their upcoming flagship Android handset. The only hint of its existence is a Netshelter ad that seemed to suggest the Nexus was supposed launch in time for Black Friday. That launch never materialized, and we are now in December. CES is just around the corner, and Verizon has a small window during which they can successfully launch the phone. If the carrier fumbles and waits to launch in early 2012, the Nexus will have to contend with a slew of new Android handsets. To see how well it fares against the current competition, check out our review.
