German Apple website, Macerkopf, supposedly heard from two independent sources that Apple is testing new processors and different screen resolutions in its next generation iPhone handset. Though we can’t substantiate them, these rumors do make sense. If Apple is launching a new handset in 2012, it would be testing different configurations right now and someone, somewhere out there would know about it.
According to Macerkopf, Apple is reportedly testing several screen resolutions including the standard 960×640 resolution, a high resolution 1280×720 and an even higher resolution 1440×800. The handset maker is also supposedly testing both a dual-core and a quad-core processor. The current generation iPhone 4S has a dual-core A5 processor, which is a nice upgrade from the single-core CPU found in the iPhone 4. A quad-core, though, would speed up the handset and keep the iPhone on par with the latest Tegra 3 Android devices like the Asus Transformer Prime tablet.
