Zite comes to iPhone, faces crowded social reader scene

The Zite app is coming to the iPhone and this social-news reader is facing an increasingly-crowded landscape.

The Zite app, which is now owned by CNN, had previously been on the iPad and it provided a personalized news-reading experience with all the social and touch integration that you’d expect. You can have it pipe in links from Twitter or your Google account and it will display these in a magazine-like interface. You can share stories, vote them up and down and adjust the text.

I’ve played with it for a while on the iPhone and it seems like just another social news reader in a crowded field. It doesn’t quite have the visual appeal of Flipboard, which just debuted on the iPhone a few days ago, and it lacks the new, fresh feeling of the just-released Google Currents app.
