As noticed by The Verge, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus is no longer available for sale from the Google Play Store. Instead of being able to buy the Nexus at its lowered $349 price tag, the phone is now listed as coming soon. Google does not give a reason why the Nexus is no longer available, but the first explanation that comes to mind is the injunction Apple won against Samsung’s flagship phone.
Of course, it’s also possible Google pulled the phone temporarily so it could re-launch the handset with the recently announced Android Jelly Bean OS. We will update this post when Google comments on this change in the Nexus’ availability.
Update: Google updated its website to say that the Galaxy Nexus will soon include Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. This change suggests Google is merely swapping the operating system and not obeying injunction orders. The timing, though, is curious as Apple just posted the $96 million bond needed to start the injunction.
