Super Hexagon for iOS will destroy your free time, keep you coming back for more

I first heard about Super Hexagon in a Twitter conversion between Engadget Editor in Chief Tim Stevens and Ars Technica’s Senior Gaming Editor Kyle Orl. In a way, I wish I’d never heard of Super Hexagon, as I’ve just about literally only put my iPad down in the last 18 hours or so to sleep. And to write this article. So what is this Super Hexagon, you ask?

Super Hexagon is an ultra-simplistic game with only two controls-a left arrow and a right arrow-which predictably turn your character, a small, yellow triangle, left and right around a central hexagon. All the while, you’ll try to survive the onslaught of colorfully shaped and ever-pulsating bars and stops attempting to kill you at every turn. On the bright side, you’ll be presented with upbeat music from Chipzel that flows quite nicely with the actual gameplay.

The game is immensely challenging, and I’ve only managed to survive for 42 seconds at the longest. But the challenge makes you want to come back time and time again to best your score and move your way up the leaderboard. You can check out the gameplay/trailer video below to get a feel for how the game works. If you’re interested in Super Hexagon, the game is currently on sale for $0.99 on the App Store, and I can’t recommend it highly enough.
