It’s almost the best day of the year here in the U.S., April Fool’s Day or April 1st. While we can expect our fair share of shenanigans tomorrow, Google has already rolled out their 2014 April Fool’s Joke, and it’s pretty amazing. So, what is it? I’ll give you a hint..Pika!
Yup, Google wants everyone to be a master Pokemon trainer by creating a real-life (sort-of) Pokemon hunting experience that takes place in the Google Maps app for iOS and Android. Google has placed 150 Pokemon around the world for us to find, hidden in various locales. Some you will find right off the bat, some will take some time. It’s pretty fun, and is not a task to be taken lightly.
To begin your quest to catch Pikachu and all of his cohorts, just fire up the Google Maps app on your iOS or Android device. Simply tap the search bar and a pokeball icon will show up with the text ‘play’. Just tap that and boom, you’re off one heck of an adventure.
So, can you catch them all? I sure hope so – Pokemon hunters will have until April 2nd to harness the power of Nintendo’s popular characters.
