In case you’ve missed it, Microsoft decided to stop charging Windows license fees for devices with up to 9-inch screens. That, I think, will open the door for OEMs to launch some affordable (and amazing) tablets and laptops. After all, they won’t have to pay Microsoft a penny for preloading Windows on such devices!
And I personally hope to see something powerful and portable announced soon. What I’m talking about is a 9-inch Surface tablet that can pretty much work like a full-blown laptop. Or a device from Asus’ Transformer series that can “act” both as tablet and regular laptop.
What I ultimately want is the regular Windows 8 device rather than something running Windows RT. Such device could be the mobile warrior’s tool of choice, as it could be both portable and powerful. Just imagine it rocking Intel’s Core iX series chip and voila – you have the tablet/laptop many will want.
That said, perhaps now’s the right time for Sony to re-launch its Vaio P series. I personally believe there’s a room for something similar and we can only hope vendors are thinking between the same lines. What do you say?
