Google I/O was disrupted by a many protesters today at the Google I/O developer conference in San Francisco. The first disruption came early on in the event, with a woman protesting Jack Halprin, a part of Google’s legal team. The Woman yelled, “Google is evicting me from my house… Jack Halprin is a millionaire… He is evicting me and my family from my house.”
Halprin recently purchased an apartment building in San Francisco and used the Ellis Act to evict the building’s residents. The protester was reportedly a seven-year resident of Halprin’s recently purchased property who had recently evicted.
The second protester managed to disrupt the keynote presentation at Google I/O, standing up close to the end of the presentation and yelling, “You all work for a totalitarian company that builds robots that kill people!” The protester was apparently not wearing a badge, which all Google I/O attendees are required to wear.
If that wasn’t enough, a swarm of protesters dressed up like Darth Vader swarmed Moscone Center at around 10:00 AM this morning, claiming that Google isn’t living up to its infamous motto, “Do no Evil.” The protest was led by the Service Employees International Union, United Service Workers West (SEIU-USWW) who are advocating for better treatment of security officers who are employed by Google.
