Huawei Pura 90s Pro 5G goes on sale in Malaysia as global rollout picks up speed

Huawei has been quiet on the global stage for a while now. After a slow year of international launches, the company is showing signs of getting back into the rhythm, starting with the Pura 90s Pro 5G. The phone has just gone on sale for pre-order in Malaysia, and more markets are already lined up.

According to Huawei Central, the Middle East is next in line after Malaysia, with a broader rollout expected to follow. That’s a meaningful shift for a company that has spent much of the past year keeping new hardware close to home in China.

The timing matters. Huawei has been working to rebuild its global presence after years of trade restrictions cut off its access to key components, particularly chips needed to support 5G connectivity in international markets. The Pura 90s Pro 5G carrying that ‘5G’ label outside China is a signal that the company has found ways to keep pushing forward.

Malaysia is a smart first stop. The country has a strong Huawei user base, a well-established retail network for the brand, and a tech-savvy market that tends to respond well to premium Android hardware. It also gives Huawei a relatively low-risk environment to gauge demand before committing to larger, more competitive markets.

The Pura series sits at the top of Huawei’s phone lineup. These are the devices the company uses to show what it can do in terms of camera performance and design, so putting the Pura 90s Pro 5G into global distribution is not just about selling units. It’s about visibility and brand positioning at a time when rivals like Samsung, Apple, and a fast-growing group of Chinese brands are all fighting for the same premium buyers.

What happens next with the Middle East launch will be worth watching. That region has historically been a strong market for Huawei, and a successful rollout there could set the pace for how far and how fast this global campaign moves through the rest of 2025.
