Vivo is bringing back its S series for the first time since 2019, and if these dummy unit videos are anything to go by, the comeback is looking pretty sharp. According to 91Mobiles, hands-on videos of the Vivo S2 dummy unit have started circulating on X, giving us the clearest look yet at the phone before its expected India launch on August 6th.
So what does it look like? Clean. That’s the word. The Vivo S2 has a curved front and curved rear panel, which gives it a premium feel that you don’t always expect at this price tier. The back is deliberately minimal, with a horizontal camera module sitting at the top housing the dual rear cameras and an LED ring. The rest of the back is completely bare. No clutter, no weird textures, just a smooth, glossy surface. Vivo is clearly leaning hard into the “flagship design” angle here, and based on what we’re seeing, it’s not an empty claim.
Three color options showed up in the videos: white, pink, and blue. Official names haven’t been confirmed yet, but all three look clean in the footage. The pink option in particular will probably move units, especially in the Indian mid-range market where color choices genuinely matter.
On the specs side, here’s what’s rumored so far:
- 6.59-inch 1.5K AMOLED display
- MediaTek Dimensity 7360 chipset
- 50MP main camera and 8MP ultrawide on the rear
- 32MP front camera
- 7,000mAh battery
That battery size is genuinely impressive. 7,000mAh in a phone that still manages to look slim and stylish is a hard balance to pull off, and if Vivo has actually nailed it, that alone could be a strong reason to buy. The Dimensity 7360 is a capable mid-range chip, nothing flashy, but solid enough for everyday use and smooth gaming. And a 1.5K AMOLED panel at this level is a nice touch.
Now, context matters here. The original Vivo S1 launched in India back in 2019 and was firmly a budget phone. The S2 is stepping up the ambition. It’s expected to compete against phones like the OnePlus Nord 6 and Motorola Edge 70 Pro, which means Vivo is positioning this as a proper mid-premium device, not just an entry-level refresh with a fancy name.
That’s a smart move. The mid-range segment in India right now is brutally competitive, with brands throwing better screens, faster chips, and bigger batteries at consumers every few months. Vivo’s angle here seems to be design and battery life as the main differentiators. If the actual retail unit holds up to what the dummy is showing, it has a real shot at standing out on a shelf next to the usual suspects.
Pricing hasn’t been confirmed yet, but expect an announcement closer to the August 6th launch date. Keep this one on your radar.
