Samsung didn’t waste much time. Just a couple of weeks after beta firmware was spotted sitting quietly on Samsung’s servers, the One UI 9 Watch beta program is now officially live. As reported by SamMobile, the program kicked off today for Galaxy Watch 8 series users in Korea, and it’s a pretty big deal for anyone who cares about where Samsung’s wearable software is headed.
For now, Korea is the only market where you can actually sign up. Samsung is accepting beta applications through the Samsung Members app, but only if you’re in an eligible region. So if you’re sitting in the US with a Galaxy Watch 8 on your wrist, you’re not there yet. Still, Samsung’s previous beta rollouts followed a pretty consistent pattern, and the US has typically joined within a short window after Korea. So it shouldn’t be a long wait.
There’s no official list of supported devices yet, which is a little frustrating. But reading between the lines, the Galaxy Watch 5 series and newer is the realistic floor for One UI 9 Watch support. The Watch 4 has already been cut off from new OS upgrades, so don’t hold your breath on that one. Older supported models will likely get pulled into the beta program gradually over the coming weeks.
This matters because One UI Watch updates have historically brought real improvements to health tracking, battery management, and the overall interface, not just cosmetic tweaks. Wearable software is still catching up to phone software in terms of polish, and each update cycle is a chance for Samsung to close that gap against Apple and Google’s own smartwatch platforms.
