That’s the number Oppo is putting on the table with ProXDR, its latest imaging technology, and honestly, it’s the kind of spec that makes you sit up and pay attention. As reported by Gizmochina, the announcement came from Liu Zuohu, Oppo’s Chief Product Officer and the founder of OnePlus, giving this reveal some real weight behind it.
So what is ProXDR, exactly? It’s a new-generation imaging system built around a sensor technology Oppo calls DeepPix. The whole pipeline has been redesigned from the ground up, covering light capture, image processing, and how the final output looks on screen. The headline claim is a single-frame dynamic range of up to 17EV. That’s not a multi-shot composited HDR trick. That’s one frame, one capture, with a massive range between the darkest shadows and brightest highlights.
For video, ProXDR supports full-size 4K HDR recording, and Oppo says it does this with lower power consumption and better stability during longer shoots. That last part matters more than people realize. Lots of phones can shoot impressive HDR video in short bursts before heat throttling kicks in and quality tanks. If Oppo has actually sorted that out, it’s a meaningful improvement.
One thing that stands out is how Oppo wants ProXDR to work in practice. There’s no special mode to switch on, no separate HDR toggle buried in settings. The system is designed to stay active automatically across different shooting conditions. That’s a smart approach. The best camera tech is the kind you don’t have to think about.

A ground-up redesign of the camera app, combined with new sensor technology, suggests Oppo is trying to fix the whole system rather than just throwing better specs at it.
ProXDR is expected to debut on the Oppo Find X10 series, with a September launch on the horizon. Oppo has been pushing hard on camera performance over the last couple of years, and this looks like another serious step in that direction. The competition from Google, Apple, and Samsung is fierce, but a 17EV dynamic range claim is exactly the kind of thing that gets camera enthusiasts curious.
