The camera module is an owl. Realme actually designed the rear camera island to look like Hedwig, with the lenses standing in as the owl’s eyes. That’s either the most delightful thing a phone maker has done in years, or a sign that licensed edition phones have completely lost the plot. Possibly both.
Realme has launched the Realme 16 Pro 5G Harry Potter Edition in India, and it’s exactly what it sounds like. The hardware is unchanged from the standard Realme 16 Pro 5G that hit India back in January. Everything different here is on the outside, and inside the box. No new chip, no upgraded sensors, no extra RAM. Just a whole lot of Hogwarts.
What you actually get for the money
The Harry Potter Edition costs Rs. 18,000 more than Realme’s previous licensed phone, the Realme 15 Pro Game of Thrones Limited Edition, which launched at Rs. 44,999 with 512GB of storage. The Harry Potter Edition gets you half the storage for that extra spend. So you’re paying more and getting less storage. That’s a pretty bold ask.
But Realme is clearly betting on the accessories and presentation to justify the price. Open the box and you’ll find a Hogwarts acceptance letter, a Hogwarts Express train ticket, a phone case with the Hogwarts logo, a phone pin, character postcards, and bookmarks featuring all four house crests. It’s a collector’s haul, not just a phone box.
A design that actually commits to the bit
The back panel has a brown leather-style finish with an argyle pattern pulled from Wizard’s Chess. The Hogwarts crest sits dead center alongside the Harry Potter wordmark. It looks unmistakably like a Harry Potter product, which is either great news or a nightmare depending on your feelings about carrying a branded phone.
And then there’s Hedwig. The redesigned camera island is shaped like the owl, with the lenses as eyes. It’s a gimmick, yes. But it’s a committed, well-executed gimmick that’s actually fun to look at. Points for effort.
Software gets the full treatment too
Realme didn’t stop at the hardware. The software gets a matching Harry Potter theme with 3D icons shaped like Hogwarts crests. Individual app icons also get themed makeovers. The Theme Store icon uses the Sorting Hat, and the Calculator icon features the Platform Nine and Three-Quarters symbol. Hogwarts-themed wallpapers round out the look.
It’s more theme customization than most limited edition phones bother with, and it actually ties the whole package together.
The specs underneath all that magic
Strip away the theming and you’ve got a solid mid-range phone. Key specs include:

- IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K dust and water resistance ratings
- Same processor and display as the standard Realme 16 Pro 5G
The battery and water resistance ratings are genuinely impressive for this segment. So the base phone isn’t a weak foundation. The hardware holds up on its own.
Who actually buys this?
Licensed edition phones occupy a weird space in the market. They’re not for spec hunters, and they’re not trying to be. This phone is for the Harry Potter fan who wants their device to match their tote bag and their bedroom shelves. That’s a real and enthusiastic audience, and Realme knows it.
Still, the storage cut is hard to ignore. Paying more for less storage because the camera looks like an owl is a choice that only makes sense if the theming matters more to you than the specs. For everyone else, the standard Realme 16 Pro 5G is the smarter buy and keeps the same internals at a lower price.
