Samsung’s 2027 foldable plan is huge, and a rollable could steal the show

A rollable Samsung phone. Yes, please. Of everything in this latest rumor, that’s the one that made me sit up, because we’ve been promised a phone with a stretchy screen for years and never got one.

According to a report from Android Headlines, Samsung is planning its biggest foldable lineup ever for 2027, with six models. The tip comes from a leaker who goes by TheGalox, also known as Anthony. Take it as a rumor, not gospel, but the details line up with other chatter we’ve heard.

Four of the six are what you’d expect: the Galaxy Z Fold 9, Fold 9 Ultra, Flip 9, and Galaxy Z TriFold 2. The new additions are a Galaxy Z Fold 9 Pro and the Galaxy Z Slide. The Fold 9 Pro is a bit of a guess at this point. It’s likely another wide-style foldable, since a second wide model has been rumored, and it should sit above the regular Fold 9 on price and specs. That’s logical, though nobody has confirmed anything.

The Z Slide is the real story. The name isn’t locked in, but the idea is a phone with a display that extends outward, a rollable. Technically it isn’t a foldable, though the screen does change shape in a similar spirit. If it ships, it would be the first rollable phone to actually reach buyers, and that’s a big deal.

Remember LG? It was close to launching a rollable years ago, then quit the phone business entirely before the thing went on sale. A handful of units did end up in people’s hands, but that’s as far as it got. So the idea has been sitting on the shelf since then, waiting for someone with the money and patience to try again. Samsung has both.

Still, I’m keeping my skeptic hat on. Rollables sound amazing in a render. In a real pocket, you worry about moving parts, dust, battery space, and price. Nobody knows what the Z Slide looks like yet, and a new form factor only matters if it’s actually better than a regular slab or a good foldable.

The TriFold 2 is also said to arrive first in 2027, which tracks. The original Galaxy Z TriFold showed up in December 2025, so Samsung is clearly moving fast on that one. And honestly, it needs to do better this time. The first TriFold was available in very limited quantities, and Samsung reportedly stopped making it shortly after it was announced. That’s a rough way to treat a flagship experiment people were excited about.

Why does any of this matter? Foldables have settled into a predictable yearly routine, and the category needs fresh ideas to keep people interested. Six models would show Samsung wants to own every shape of flexible screen, from flips to wide folds to triple panels to rollables. That’s a lot of bets. Some will probably flop. But a company that’s willing to throw this many ideas at the wall is more fun to watch than one that just adds a bigger camera bump each year.

My advice: get excited about the Z Slide, but wait for real hardware. And Samsung, please make enough TriFold 2s this time.
