Samsung Galaxy S also coming to Cellular South

Don’t fret if you’re on Cellular South and felt left out by the Samsung party because the regional carrier will also be getting a Galaxy S phone.

The handset will be coming in a few months for an undisclosed price and it will rock a stunning 4-inch Super AMOLED screen, a 1 GHz Hummingbird processor, Android 2.1 and a 5-megapixel camera.

“We’re looking forward to bringing the benefits of one of the world’s most advanced Android-powered smartphones to our customers,” said Kevin Hankins, chief operating officer for Cellular South, in a prepared statement. “With its superior touchscreen technology, super fast processor and integrated social networking, the Galaxy S offers one of the best Android experiences available today.”

This just caps off an exciting few days for Samsung, as the world’s second-largest handset maker will be bringing its Galaxy S lineup to the six largest U.S. carriers. AT&T will be getting the Captivate, Sprint will land the Epic 4G, Verizon is getting the Fascinate, T-Mobile subscribers can buy the Vibrant and U.S. Cellular customers will be getting a plain old Galaxy S device.

These devices will be very similar but the Epic 4G stands out for a few reasons. As the name indicates, the Android handset will be able to utilize Sprint’s 4G network for faster browsing and mobile hotspot functionality.

The smartphone also packs a front-facing camera for video calling, which will be similar to Apple’s FaceTime for the iPhone 4. The Epic will also pack a full, physical QWERTY keyboard.

Check out our hands-on with the Epic 4G.

You have to love Samsung’s approach to this launch, as it’s not bothering with exclusive deals. Instead, the company wants to make sure you can get your hands on its devices on whatever carrier you choose. These look like cool smartphones too, so it’s quite a refreshing strategy.
