There are quite a few DVD to mobile video optimizing apps out there. If you’ve been looking for a free alternative for your Nokia touch-enabled smartphone, look no further.
This solution is called DvdToSymbian, and it’s basically a “.bat” script for PC that relies on the popular VLC open-source media player. All you have to do is insert a DVD in the drive and start the program to have the movie optimized for nHD (640×360 pixels) playback. It’s that easy, and you can grab the script from here.
As you may know, nHD is Nokia’s resolution of choice for their touch-enabled smartphones such as the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, N97 (and N97 mini), 5230, X6, N8 and others. In addition to Nokia smartphones, there are some other devices using the nHD screens such as the Samung i8910 HD, Sony Ericsson Satio, Vivaz and Vivaz Pro (all running Symbian S60 5th Edition – like Nokia’s smartphones), and the Android-powered Dell Aero (Mini 3i).
