The T-Mobile G2 ROM (HTC Vision) that was leaked recently still has some legs to it, as now we have some screenshots of the homescreen, showing off a Google Voice widget and all manner of Google apps. Is that cool enough to get excited for the T-Mobile G2? You be the judge.
As we found out previously, we know that the G2 will sport stock Android OS, and the look of the G2’s other custom pieces of software will not differ much. What is different, you ask? Some of the only differences you’ll find in this particular stock Android ROM are that the extra pre-installed Google apps, seven homescreens (instead of five) and some new widgets. That’s pretty much sums up the difference between the G2’s Android OS and a bone-stock Android OS, but it doesn’t mean we’re any less excited about the G2.
One of the new widgets you can expect to find on the G2 is Google Voice, but I doubt this will be confined to T-Mobile’s successor to the original G1 – I would expect the widget to pop up in the next Google Voice update. As expected, you’ll also find all of the T-Mobile apps that Magenta likes to pack into every Android device they carry. We’re wondering if any more apps will make the final cut, like the loads of bloatware found on the Vibrant, but we’ll just have to wait to find out.
Speaking of apps, there are a boatload more Google apps pre-installed on the device. We can see Google Finance, Shopper, Listen, Earth, Translate, My Tracks, and SkyMap all included in the ROM, and never have we seen them pre-installed on a device before. Let’s hope we can uninstall them if we so choose.
The G2 also offers you seven homescreens instead of the standard five you’d normally find on a stock Android phone. All HTC Sense devices come with seven homescreens, with the exception of the MyTouch Slide, which sports five homescreen panes out of the box, but allows you to add two additional panes. Other than that, folks, the T-Mobile G2 looks to be sporting vanilla Android, and I couldn’t be happier about it.
Thanks to this leaked ROM we’ve found quite a bit out about T-Mobiles upcoming flagship phone. Stock Android, a great Qualcomm processor, and now the few additions, such as apps and widgets.
Now if we could just find a little more about the hardware. I’m wondering if they will offer the G2 in more than one color, as they did with the G1 and MyTouch 3G.
