
In its latest report, International Data Corporation (IDC) predicts further expansion of the business mobile email around the world with revenues set to grow at CAGR of 13.2% over the 2009-2014 forecast period. The number of subscribers, on the other hand, will grow at even faster pace of 36.5% (CAGR).
IDC argues there are multiple factors contributing to this growth, with the rapid adoption of smartphones leading the way. Other factors include new players and innovations on the mobile OS front, as well as better data-enabled service offerings from wireless carriers.
From a vendor perspective, RIM is definitely the leading company with $287.8 million in business mobile email revenues and a commanding 57.2% marketshare (based on revenues). Moreover, there’s Microsoft, which experienced tremendous subscriber growth with its Exchange Active Sync across key platforms — including iPhone, Symbian, its own Windows Mobile and webOS.
