Good news for Kindle owners, Amazon confirmed today that it is developing a version of its popular Kindle app for the upcoming BlackBerry PlayBook. Amazon boasts of a catalog of over 700,000 titles that are now accessible on the your BlackBerry tablet device. The eReader application from Amazon will let you browse, download, and read your Kindle books. The application will support Whispersync so you can sync your reading progress across all supported reading devices including the iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Android and BlackBerry devices. Similar to these other versions, the Amazon eReader application will be available for free.

The Kindle application is an excellent first app for RIM’s first tablet device. Geared towards the business customer, the BlackBerry PlayBook may have a dual-function as a content consumption device for books, magazines, movies, and more. Similar to the Galaxy Tab, the PlayBook offers a 7-inch, 1024×600 touchscreen display and a 1GHz processor. It also includes a hefty 1GB of RAM. The hardware powering the PlayBook has the oomph to handle almost everything in the mobile arena that can be thrown at it. With its QNX roots and RIM’s new development tools, the tablet device should launch with the necessary applications, like the Kindle app, to facilitate fun, even within the sometimes constraining enterprise environment. With a few months to go before the 2011 launch, it will interesting to watch this platform and see if it can develop from confirmed rumor to enterprise powerhouse to content consumption device.
