BitStream’s Bolt browser has been updated to version 2.3, which includes new features like syncing with the cloud so you can get links to all of your favourite sites restored whenever you switch devices. The last update handled HTML5 and Flash video streaming, but 2.3 is tacking on audio streaming as well – handy for those who are into internet radio or podcasts. There’s also a Facebook and Twitter widget built in so you can keep tabs on your social networks without having to launch into other apps if you want to share web content.
Bolt typically targeted BlackBerry as an alternative to the native browser (a space occupied only by Opera Mini), but now that RIM has gone live with their WebKit browser and are beginning to seed OS 6 into older devices, the need for a third party solution is less clear. Sure, RIM’s native offering is still pretty slow compared to iPhone or Android, but rendering accuracy and support for big web standards is considerably less of an issue now.
If you’re in the market for a new browser on your BlackBerry, you can find it in app world, or over here if you’re using some other Java-based phone.
