Remember that little Samsung Android slider we saw in a manual yesterday? It went official in an announcement today from Sprint, complete with Android 2.1 (not 2.2 as speculated), 3 megapixel camera, 3G over EV-DO, Wi-Fi b/g, GPS, a forward-facing video calling camera, 800 MHz processor with 256 MB of RAM, 1500 mAh battery, and a 3.5-inch HVGA capacitive touchscreen. The Samsung Transform will also launch with Sprint’s new ID service, which offers whole packs of mobile content, like apps, backgrounds, and ringtones – at a price, of course.
Specs-wise, the Transform is just a bit higher-end than the Intercept, and a notch lower than the Epic 4G, but it looks like it will be the spearhead for Sprint’s new blitz to sell bundles of mobile content. It’s an interesting idea, for sure, and a nice way to alleviate the ill will that preloaded bloatware has a bad habit of generating. Whether or not customers will bite, or just bask in their freedom of movement is another question altogether.
The Samsung Transform will be available on October 10 for $150 on contract after rebates, for those particularly interested. Keep an eye on their online store, it should be showing up soon.
