Sprint layoffs: executives on the chopping block

Sprint CEO Dan Hesse fires executivesTalk about some drastic changes. Dan Hesse has barely taken control of the reigns at Sprint and he’s already firing 4,000 employees and closing 125 retails stores. It looks like Dan Hesse isn’t taking that 639,000 subscriber-lose in Q4 2007 lightly. According to the Wall Street Journal, the swinging-ax, destined to lop-off 4,000 heads, has started its downward-swing on the necks of some high-level executives – these type of corporate lay-offs are usually limited to lower-level employees, but this Hesse guy is really stirring things up.

Sprint’s Chief Financial Officer Paul Saleh, Chief Marketing Officer Tim Kelly, and President of Sales and Distribution Mark Angelino should be on the prowl for other employment starting tomorrow. The official line is that the executive trio will be resigning their posts, but we all know what that means – their heads were to first of 4,000 to hit the floor.

John Garcia, Sprint’s Senior VP of Product Development and Management, will be serving as Chief Marketing Officer in the interim. Paget Alves, Sprint Nextel’s regional president for sales and distribution, will take over as acting President, Sales and Distribution.

It was a good run, guys. Now, step aside and let the next set of half-witted executives try and rescue Sprint from a bleak future. They’d better make sure that XOHM launch goes well.
