So whilst we are on the topic of Glu, we maybe ought to mention some big money news – they have have stated they are to buy out Superscape Group Plc, for about $36M!
Glu have said the acquisiton helps them scale up in the USA, and also helps advance their 3D gaming leadership.
Superscape is UK-based, with offices in Moscow, and San Clemente, USA – the company has approx 135 employees, so good scale also. They have created a slew of own-IP games, but also some major license deals with movie studios.
So what can we expect from this? Well I met Superscape a ‘few’ (i.e. some) years back now, when the first Series60 devices were seeding in to the market, and they were demo-ing next-gen vector graphics, running at a good speed – so certainly there’s a pedigree there. It’s going to be interesting to see what the combined fruits of Glu and Superscapes’ labours are going to be – bring on the mobile gaming action!
