HTC Windows Phone FCC

The FCC recently gave a big thumbs up to an HTC handset that sports the curious combination of CDMA connectivity and the Windows phone operating system. The SAR and HAC reports from the FCC present the results of cellular radio testing and in doing so paints a picture of a handset with EV-DO, WiFi, and Bluetooth 2.1 wireless options. While the true identity of this Windows phone remains shrouded in mystery, we can guess with reasonable assurance that it may be the HTC 7 Pro, the only CDMA Windows Phone handset announced at Microsoft’s launch event earlier this month.

The HTC 7 Pro is a respectable offering that includes a 1 GHz Snapdragon processor, a 3.6-inch touchscreen display with 480 X 800 resolution, a 5-megapixel camera with HD-quality 720p video and 8 GB of internal storage. It features a side-sliding QWERTY keyboard and fits in nicely with the other Window Phone handsets.

It is interesting to note that the phone listed in the FCC documents is a production model which is typically the last stage of manufacturing. Microsoft confirmed last month that it will not release its CDMA-based Windows Phone handsets until 2011 so it is surprising to see a production model landing at the FCC so early. Maybe Sprint, in a quest to launch another flagship handset, is pushing Microsoft to stop dragging its feet and get its CDMA models out the door as soon as possible.
