Satellite-cellular hybrid smartphone TerreStar GENUS now available for purchase

It was back in September when we got an information AT&T is launching the TerreStar GENUS. So I was kinda surprised to see just how long it took TerreStar to actually release the device to the general public. Anyway, the satellite-cellular hybrid smartphone is now available for purchase through Simplexity and as you can presume it requires both AT&T’s and TerreStar Networks’ plans. As a result, anyone with a line of sight to the southern sky will be able to stay connected — including the United States, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands and territorial waters.

However, it’s important to add that the monthly satellite service feature is not enough – usage of the satellite network for voice, data and messaging is billed as a per-minute, per-message or per-megabyte roaming charge.

Specs wise, the GENUS is a Windows Mobile 6.5-powered device with WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity support, GPS (of course), 2-megapixel camera, full QWERTY keyboard, 100MB of onboard storage, media player and so on. In terms of the size, it measures 4.7 x 2.5 x 0.8/0.6 inches and has a weight of 4.6 oz…
