JiWire is acquiring NearbyNow to expand its location-based media channel across WiFi and mobile, and ultimately create a new set of location-based advertising opportunities.
Those unfamiliar (myself included) should know NearbyNow enables brands to show users current product catalogues, and even whether a product is currently in-stock at a specific nearby store. If a product is available at some location, a customer can reserve it for later pick-up.
JiWire plans to combine its existing location-based platform that runs across WiFi with NearbyNow’s ad platform to increase ways in which advertisers can reach new local customers at scale and drive in-store conversions. It is said that the company is already working on new products and services that leverage the combined capabilities of both platforms.
In a nutshell, as the mobile location-based products and services keep growing, be prepared for an additional annoyance — all while on the go and related to your current location. A dream come true or a nightmare – you be the judge.
