The vast majority of video we’ve seen of the BlackBerry PlayBook has been under fairly controlled circumstances, but we have seen a few less-than-official clips. Another one came out today at a joint RIM/Adobe developer event in New York, and we’ll probably have at least one more video coming from the shindig later today.
The BlackBerry PlayBook tablet is RIM’s first device in this form factor, running with a dual-core 1 GHz processor, 1 GB of RAM, a 7-inch 1024 x 600 display, HDMI-out, Wi-Fi (sorry no 3G yet), and two cameras: a 5 megapixel shooter on the back, and 3 megapixels on the front for video conferencing. The PlayBook will come in 16 GB, 32 GB, and 64 GB models, likely sometime in February.
Developers right now are using Adobe AIR to make PlayBook apps, and I’d wager the free device offer is a big attraction for the time being. Though that SDK comes with a simulator, I’m sure developers are eager to try out the device itself and if possible, see how their apps will run in a real-world situation. Sadly, the BlackBerry PlayBook’s software is still very much a work in progress though (it’s currently only running on one of its two cores), so we probably won’t see a lot of live third-party app demos for a little while still.
