Meizu M9 specs debut on official website

Remember the Meizu M9? The Meizu handsets have been the epitome of iPhone clones, so we were rather surprised when we heard the rumored specs were as impressive as they are. Those specs are now finalized, as the Meizu M9 website has launched, showing it off in all its iPhone-clone glory.

You’ll find pretty much exactly what we already knew about this Chinese Android phone. The Meizu M9 comes with a 3.5 inch capacitive display,  and sports a resolution of 960 x 640, matching the iPhone 4’s retina display. The CPU used on the M9 will be very similar to the Samsung Galaxy S, the S5PC110 application processor running at 1GHz. We’re not sure if the GPU within the handset is worthy of being compared to the Galaxy S, but we doubt that the 9 has any “Hummingbird” wings under the hood.

It’ll be available in 8GB and 16GB versions, and can support up to 32GB microSD cards. You’ll also find a 5 megapixel camera on board, with 720p HD video recording, yet a LED flash is suspiciously missing. Rounding out the M9 are the standard WiFi (b/g/n), Bluetooth 2.1, GPS, as well as a handful of sensors that include an ambient light, proximity, and gravity sensors.

While it still works for the iPhone, I would have liked to see a bigger screen on the M9. It’s 2010, and I think the minimum amount of screen I need is 3.7 inches – the 4-inch displays seem to be the sweet spot.  Nonetheless, the M9 is an impressive handset that we weren’t expecting to see playing at the same level as the iPhone 4. The handset will launch on Christmas in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen. When they actually ship is a totally different story.

The M9 looks mighty fine, who wants one?
