A leaked internal document from Staples suggests the office supply chain will carry both the Motorola Xoom tablet and the BlackBerry PlayBook. According to the document, the Xoom and PlayBook will arrive in Staples retail stores at the end of March for employee training. The duo will then go on sale sometime in April. Pricing information was not available, but that omission is expected as this document contained training information for internal employees.
Both the PlayBook and the Motorola Xoom are interesting alternatives to the Apple iPad and the Samsung Galaxy Tab. Those latter two tablets are now the top-selling slate devices on the market. The Xoom takes the iPad head on with its dual-core processor and 10.1-inch, high-resolution display. It is chock-full of features thanks to its Android 3.0 Honeycomb operating system. The PlayBook is RIM’s answer to the iPad. The tablet runs QNX-powered BlackBerry Tablet OS. The PlayBook has a 7-inch display and will compete head-to-head with the Android-powered Samsung Galaxy Tab.
Other tablets slated to hit the market include the LG G-Slate, the iPad 2 and the webOS Touchpad. The iPad 2 will arrive this week, the G-Slate in the upcoming month and the Touchpad later this summer.
