Leak: Nokia Touch and Type Slider [Dumb phones have never looked so pretty]

Late last year Nokia debut the “Touch and Type” moniker which they use to classify feature phones that run their proprietary Series 40 operating system and feature both a traditional keypad and a touch screen. We’ve already seen the X3 Touch and Type that’s a music centric device and the C3 Touch and Type for those who want to own a handset that has a classic Nokia design. Today that family is growing thanks to a leaked image of a device that’s yet to be announced which features a slide out T9 keypad. We don’t have a model number, spec sheet, price tag, or availability date to share with you right now, but just look at this thing. The keypad is massive, there are dedicated send and end keys, and you’ll likely be able to use this device with it being closed in most cases.

Now we understand that Nokia is planning to transition to Windows Phone as their primary smartphone operating system over the next 18 to 24 months, and that’s what the media is likely to talk about the most when discussing the Finnish handset maker, but it’s devices like this that got Nokia to where it is today and what will keep them in business for the long run. Sure, people are buying more smartphones than ever, but not everyone can afford even the cheapest $200 Android device from the likes of ZTE and Huawei. Depending on how much this leaked device will cost, and we’re assuming it’ll be less than $150, then expect it to be one of the most popular feature phones on the market.

Now for a little personal request: Bring back the clamshell. If there’s any device that could use both a touch screen and keypad it’s the flip phone. Huge keypad, huge screen, what’s not to like?
