Forget about recession – it has no impact on the mobile entertainment market. As a matter of fact, the latest Juniper Research report forecasts that revenues from mobile entertainment content and services will increase by more than 15% this year, from $33.2 billion to nearly $38.4 billion.
According to the research company, both big and small content publishers have app stores to thank for their business. As an example, Juniper points to two small companies, Rovio and Lima Sky, which mobile games (Angry Birds and Doodle Jump, respectively) have each achieved more than 10 million paid downloads.
Some other findings from the report include:
- In the mobile gambling segment, there has been a surge of activity on both browser-based applications and native smartphone apps.
- Mobile gambling has been given an additional boost by deregulation of the European remote gambling laws.
- A number of US state lottery providers are considering the deployment of mobile lottery services in the medium term.
