Those of you prone to storing files in the cloud will probably be familiar with Dropbox. They’ve made apps for Android, iPhone, and BlackBerry, letting you upload, download, and share files stored in your personal locker from your phone. Recently, they’ve announced that the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc and Xperia Play would come preloaded with their file sharing app, but unfortunately it’s restricted by region. Ten countries, counting UK, Denmark, Sweden, Australia, and Italy are the only places cleared right now. On top of that, Softbank customers in Japan will get a bonus 1 GB of free storage on top of the 2 GB Dropbox already offers.
If you’ve never had a chance to try it out, Dropbox is a desktop and mobile app that puts a sharing folder on all of your various computing devices and ensures that they’re all in sync but uploading and downloading files to your private Dropbox account online as needed. The nice thing about this cloud set-up is that it makes life easy when trying to share files with friends; all you have to do is grant them access to your little corner of the cloud.
This isn’t the first time Dropbox has been cozy with handset manufacturers; it’s been plugged into the native webOS productivity suite, QuickOffice, in OS 2.0. It’s too bad that Sony Ericsson handsets in North America won’t have it included on their phones right off the bat, but the app is still available in the Android Market over here. If you want more than 2 GB, it’ll cost $9.99/month for 50 GB.
