research2guidance is out with a new report, talking about Android app distribution. The research company found that a number of developers are opting to submit their apps to multiple app stores in an effort to get their work noticed by the end users.
At the moment, there are more than 30 alternative Android distribution platforms, with more and more opening and building up their catalogues with increasing speed. Some of them are bursting with apps counting as much as 20,000 titles, whereas the smaller ones settle for few hundred (selected) apps. Pretty much all stores offer various promotional packages for developers, allowing them to buy their way into the hearts and minds of mobile users.
Investors like the idea with two of the companies, GetJar and Appia (PocketGear), raising more than $10 million to drive their offering forward.
The biggest independent store, Handster, has 23,204 apps to date (10.7% of Android market), which were submitted by the developers, followed by PocketGear, Amazon Appstore and SlideMe. The smallest independent stores have no more than 100 apps…
