Apple iPad has already won hearts, minds and wallets of businesses, educators, doctors and now lawmakers are joining the trend. Apparently the State of Indiana is considering buying iPads for the Legislature’s 50 senators and 100 representatives as part of its cost-cutting measures. If approved, the program would end the practice of providing legislators with laptops while eliminating huge paper costs at the same time.
According to the State Senator Brandt Hershman, every legislator is provided with a paper copy of every version of every bill which turns into a big pile at the end of the session. He went on to add that there were numerous times legislators had to wait to consider a budget because of feverishly printing hundreds of copies.
Indiana is by no means an exception to the iPad adoption — West Virginia’s Legislature is already relying on Apple’s tablet, while Virginia and Vermont are reportedly also considering the move.
